DA Investigation Launched After Confrontation at Student Protest in Buda

BUDA, Texas - An investigation is underway after an incident involving an adult and student demonstrators during a peaceful protest in Buda, Hays County officials said Monday.

According to Ruben Becerra, the incident occurred Feb. 2, 2026, during a lawful, student-led demonstration at the intersection of RM 967 and FM 1626. The protest was described as a peaceful exercise of constitutional rights to free speech and assembly.

Video circulating from the scene appears to show an adult confronting students with what officials described as visible hostility, followed by an escalation that resulted in physical contact involving a minor. That conduct is now the subject of an active law enforcement investigation.

Becerra said he has been in communication with law enforcement and the Hays County District Attorney’s Office regarding the incident. He confirmed that the Buda Police Department proactively contacted prosecutors, who have assigned two experienced attorneys to work directly with investigators.

The county judge emphasized that adults have a responsibility to exercise restraint, particularly in situations involving children, and said intimidation or violence toward a minor during a lawful protest will not be tolerated.

The investigation remains ongoing. Officials said any potential action will proceed through appropriate legal channels as authorities review evidence and determine whether charges are warranted.
