Drug Ring Leader Arrested After Search Warrant in Crystal City

CRYSTAL CITY, Texas — The Zavala County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division has arrested two men following an investigation into what authorities describe as a drug distribution organization operating in a residential neighborhood near local schools.

Investigators identified Jesus “Chuy” Hernandez as the alleged leader of the organization, which authorities say was distributing methamphetamine and heroin in the community. The activity was centered around a home in the 1700 block of North 7th Avenue.

According to the Zavala County Sheriff’s Office, Hernandez was assisted by others, including his nephew, Juan Pablo Aguilar, who also lived at the residence. Investigators noted that young children were living in the home at the time, raising additional safety concerns because of the presence of illegal narcotics.

On February 6, 2026, the Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Dimmit County Sheriff’s Office, executed a district court-authorized search warrant at the residence. Authorities reported seizing controlled substances and items consistent with the sale and distribution of narcotics.

Aguilar was taken into custody during the operation and charged with Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity. Hernandez was arrested at a later date on warrants related to narcotics distribution.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional arrests are expected.

During the course of the case, investigators identified individuals who had allegedly been supplied narcotics by the organization. In some instances, the Sheriff’s Office worked with partner agencies to connect those individuals with addiction treatment resources.

The Zavala County Sheriff’s Office emphasized its commitment to both holding drug trafficking organizations accountable and helping individuals struggling with substance abuse find assistance.
