DE WITT COUNTY, Texas — A fast-moving grass fire scorched approximately 91 acres Friday afternoon near Zengerle Road in the Thomaston area, prompting a massive multi-agency response and threatening several homes.
At approximately 1:50 p.m. on February 6, the 911 Dispatch Center with the De Witt County Sheriff's Office received reports of a large grass fire. What followed was a coordinated response involving local, county, state, and community partners.

State resources also responded, including the Texas A&M Forest Service and the Texas Division of Emergency Management.
After nearly seven hours of firefighting efforts, crews successfully contained the blaze. Four homes were directly threatened but were protected thanks to the rapid and coordinated response.
The De Witt County Office of Emergency Management expressed appreciation to the agencies, volunteers, commissioners, businesses, and residents who assisted, highlighting the teamwork and resilience shown throughout the operation.
