Kendall County Deputy Returns Fire After Being Shot At in Comfort Motel Parking Lot

COMFORT, Texas — A Kendall County deputy exchanged gunfire with a suspect early Sunday morning after responding to reports of a fight and shots fired at a local motel.

According to the Kendall County Sheriff's Office, dispatchers received a call around 12:45 a.m. on February 8 reporting several males fighting and gunshots in the parking lot of the Executive Inn Motel, located at 32 N. Highway 87 in Comfort.

Within minutes, a deputy arrived on scene and was immediately fired upon by a subject in the parking lot. The deputy returned fire, striking the lone gunman.

Additional deputies from Kendall County, along with the Kerr County Sheriff's Office and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, responded to assist.

Once the scene was secured, Kendall County EMS treated the wounded suspect, who was then airlifted to a San Antonio hospital in critical condition. The deputy was not injured.

Kendall County investigators are leading the investigation. Authorities say there is no ongoing threat to the public, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
