Teen Dead After Accidental Shooting Inside San Angelo Apartment; Suspect Charged with Manslaughter

SAN ANGELO, Texas — A reckless handling of a firearm inside an apartment ended in tragedy Friday night, leaving one teen dead and another facing a manslaughter charge.

On February 6, 2026, at approximately 8:44 p.m., officers with the San Angelo Police Department were dispatched to the 1900 block of Raney Street at the Windmill Apartments in reference to a shooting.

When officers arrived, they took 19-year-old Norberto Gonzales into custody without incident. Inside the apartment, officers located 18-year-old Jordan DeLaCruz suffering from a gunshot wound. DeLaCruz was transported to Shannon ER, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Preliminary findings indicate the two were recklessly handling a handgun inside the apartment when the firearm discharged, striking DeLaCruz.

Gonzales was arrested and charged with Manslaughter.  His bond was set at $75,000.
