UVALDE, Texas — A family of four escaped unharmed from an early-morning house fire Friday, February 6, as firefighters battled heavy flames and rescued a pet trapped inside the burning home.
Just after 5:00 a.m., the Uvalde Volunteer Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 100 block of Larkspur Drive. Upon arrival, crews observed heavy fire coming through the roof above the garage.

Firefighters quickly deployed two attack lines and initiated an interior offensive operation, successfully preventing the fire from spreading to other areas of the residence. Additional crews were assigned to roof ventilation and conducted a primary search of the structure.
During the search, firefighters located a cat inside the home. Crews administered air from their breathing apparatus and were able to revive the animal, which was later reunited with its owner. A second cat remains unaccounted for.
All four occupants safely exited the home before crews arrived.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office.
