BEXAR COUNTY, TX - The search for a missing 19-year-old woman in northwest Bexar County has ended in tragedy.
Camila Mendoza-Olmos was last seen on December 24 outside her family’s home in the 11000 block of Caspian Spring. Her disappearance prompted a multi-agency search involving the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI.
On Tuesday, December 30th, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar announced that a body had been discovered during the ongoing search but said at the time it was too early to confirm the identity. Sheriff Salazar explained that investigators returned to an area that had previously been searched and located the body within 10 minutes.
The body was found in tall grass near the Burnin’ Bush landscaping company, located at 10200 block of FM1560, just a few hundred yards from Mendoza-Olmos’ residence. According to the sheriff, a firearm was also found near the body.
On Wednesday, December 31, the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the deceased was Camila Mendoza-Olmos. The medical examiner determined that she died from a gunshot wound to the head and ruled her death a suicide.
Following the confirmation, Mendoza-Olmos’ aunt, Nancy Olmos, shared a statement on behalf of the family through social media. In the message, the family expressed gratitude to the community for the outpouring of support during the search efforts.
“In the name of the Olmos family, we want to give a humble and heartfelt thank you to all the news reporters, churches, friends, families, and communities for your support and prayers,” the statement read. “Our beloved Camila Mendoza Olmos is now with the Good Lord.”
The family also asked for privacy as they grieve, requesting prayers for Camila’s mother, Rosario, and her brother, Carlos.
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office extended condolences to the family and thanked the numerous agencies and community members who assisted during the search.
