The Comal County Sheriff's Office has issued a warning to residents about a new scam targeting citizens in the area. Individuals posing as members of the Comal County Sheriff’s Office have been making phone calls attempting to extort payments for non-existent warrants and purported instances of missing jury duty.
The scammers employ various tactics to coerce victims, claiming that warrants will be issued if immediate payment is not made. They suggest payments be made either in person or through a kiosk at a location in San Antonio. Notably, these fraudulent callers are utilizing a technique called "spoofing," using a fake number to appear legitimate. Moreover, they are referencing actual names of Comal County Sheriff’s Office employees in an attempt to enhance their credibility.
The Comal County Sheriff’s Office emphasizes that it never solicits payments for warrants or missing jury duty over the phone, in person, or through payment kiosks.
Officials urge residents to contact the Comal County Sheriff’s Office at (830) 620-3400 to report any suspicious calls.
