Three Sentenced in New Braunfels for Theft, Assaults, and Robbery

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – Three individuals have been sentenced in separate cases following investigations by the New Braunfels Police Department.

Brandon Demont Miller, Jr., 29, of Pflugerville, pled guilty to two counts of Theft with Two or More Previous Convictions for the Same Offense and was sentenced to six years in prison by Visiting Judge Alicia Key. The charges stemmed from retail theft incidents at Home Depot and Spec’s. Miller, a documented gang member, was also under investigation for additional retail theft offenses at the time of his arrest.

Gael Torres, 19, of New Braunfels, pled guilty to multiple offenses involving assaults on public servants. Judge Gary Steel of the 274th District Court sentenced Torres to a total of 12 years in prison, including 12 years for Assault Against a Peace Officer, 10 years (the statutory maximum) for Harassment of a Public Servant, and 2 years (the maximum) for Attempted Harassment of a Public Servant, all sentences to run concurrently.

April Esquivel, 43, of New Braunfels, pled guilty to two counts of Robbery and was sentenced to 22 years in prison by Judge Tracie Wright Reneau. The charges stemmed from a theft at a Dollar General on August 6, 2024, during which Esquivel threatened the store manager and employees with a firearm she claimed to possess. Investigators reported that she had consumed drugs earlier that day and admitted to reaching toward her waistband during the incident, believing she had a weapon.

All three cases were prosecuted by the Comal County District Attorney’s Office.
