Former Bexar County Deputy Antonio Almaraz, aged 31, was arrested by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division on September 18, 2023. Almaraz stands accused of leaving his two-month-old baby inside a vehicle, resulting in serious injuries to the infant.
The incident came to light at approximately 1:57 pm yesterday when a hospital alerted the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office about the situation.
Upon initial questioning, Almaraz provided conflicting statements. However, investigators were able to ascertain the actual sequence of events.
According to reports, Almaraz had taken his two-month-old baby to a routine pediatric appointment at 9 am and returned home after 10 am.
Upon arriving home, Almaraz allegedly turned off the vehicle, entered his residence, and inadvertently left the infant inside the vehicle.
Around 1:00 pm, it was discovered that the baby had been left unattended inside the vehicle and was unresponsive. Subsequently, at 1:07 pm, an ambulance was dispatched to the 5000 block of Mansions Bluff, and the baby was transported to Methodist Hospital.
As of the latest update, the baby remains in critical condition while receiving medical care at the hospital.

In accordance with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Civil Service Commission, Almaraz has been issued an order of dismissal due to his probationary status within the Sheriff’s Office. Almaraz was hired on February 20, 2023.
It's important to note that Almaraz cannot appeal his probationary dismissal and is ineligible for rehire regardless of the outcome of the criminal case.
