SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A man convicted in a double homicide was sentenced Monday to two concurrent 50-year prison terms for the killings of his ex-girlfriend and another victim, authorities said.
Visiting Judge Michael Keasler of the 187th District Court sentenced Lazerith Carrillo in connection with the murders of Alyssa Perez and Edward Jimenez.
The victims were found in January 2023 inside a vehicle, both suffering from gunshot wounds, according to investigators.
Authorities said Carrillo was apprehended shortly after the shootings when he attempted to steal another vehicle at gunpoint. During his arrest, officers found him in possession of the murder weapon, along with personal belongings belonging to one of the victims, including a phone and identification.
Investigators later linked Carrillo to the crime through forensic evidence, including DNA and fingerprints recovered from inside the vehicle where the shootings occurred.
Assistant Criminal District Attorney Ashley Jones of the Family Violence Division led the prosecution, with support from Victim Advocate Franceska Alford and investigators Sheila Sorola and Michelle Grabowski.
“I want to applaud the incredible efforts of the prosecution team and law enforcement involved in the case,” Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales said. “Because of their relentless pursuit of the truth, we were able to ensure that the individual responsible for this tragic crime faced the consequences of their actions.”
