In a significant development in the Capital Murder case of Savanah Soto and Matthew Guerra, a third arrest was made this morning, January 10, 2024. San Antonio Police Officers apprehended Myrta Romanos, stepmother of the teen charged with murder, Christopher Preciado.
Romanos faces charges of Abuse of a Corpse, Tampering of Evidence, and Alter/Destroy/Conceal a Human Corpse. Investigators allege her involvement in assisting Christopher Preciado in hiding the bodies of Soto and Guerra after the alleged murders. Christopher Preciado and his father, Ramon Preciado, were previously arrested in connection to the case.
The bodies of Soto and Guerra were discovered on December 26 inside Guerra's Kia parked in a Northwest Side apartment complex parking lot. The arrest warrant affidavits for Christopher and Ramon Preciado revealed that the victims had gone to Preciado's home to sell marijuana on the night of December 21. Christopher Preciado claimed that a confrontation ensued, resulting in the deaths of Soto and Guerra. However, investigators found inconsistencies between his account and the evidence.
After the shootings, Christopher Preciado is accused of dragging Guerra's body to the backseat of his Kia and then relocating the vehicle to an apartment complex down the street, where the bodies were found five days later.
Ramon Preciado, Christopher's father, faces charges of abuse of a corpse. Surveillance footage implicated him in wiping down the outside of Guerra's car with a towel. In the arrest warrant affidavit for Romanos, investigators mentioned another person in the truck with Christopher Preciado who threw him the towel.
During police questioning on January 4, Romanos claimed she couldn't recall the events from the night of December 21, stating she thought she was asleep at the time. However, a search of their home revealed the gun believed to be used in the shootings, hidden in Romanos' room. She told officers the gun was hers and was given to her by a family member.
Surveillance video from Romanos' house depicted her leaving with Ramon Preciado on the night of the incident, with all three suspects returning later that night. Ramon Preciado's bond is set at $600,000, and Christopher Preciado's bond has been set at $2 million.
