In the pursuit of higher education, Laredo College stands as a beacon for students, embracing all who seek knowledge and personal growth. Among its success stories is Corina Nickole Santos, a testament to resilience and determination.
Santos embarked on her educational journey at Laredo Community College, fueled by a passion to make a difference in the lives of others. After eight years, marked by work-related challenges that temporarily halted her studies, Santos returned to Laredo College with renewed vigor. This December, she proudly walks the stage, one step closer to realizing her dream of becoming a social worker.
Reflecting on her experience, Santos expressed gratitude for the unwavering support from her loved ones. "Looking back at my experience at the college, I think of all the effort and study nights that I had, and how all my effort will get rewarded when I get my associate degree," she shared.
With aspirations to become a social worker, Santos is set to pursue a master's degree in social work at the University of Texas in the Rio Grande Valley. Leveraging her professional experience as a sales manager in a multinational communication firm, she excelled in her classes at Laredo College, also taking on a mentorship role to motivate her peers to pursue entrepreneurial dreams.
Santos highlighted the impactful role of Professor Denise LaMore, whose social work class left a lasting impression on her academic growth. Additionally, she was an active member of the Latina Entrepreneurship Academy, where she served as a mentor and presenter, inspired by retired LC administrator Dr. Nora Garza.
"I really enjoyed motivating future Latina leaders and helping them pursue their dream of opening their own business and becoming successful businesswomen, just like how Dr. Garza inspires me," Santos remarked.
As Santos moves on to UTRGV, she carries with her the lessons learned at Laredo College. Her disciplined approach, early morning routines, and effective time management have led to the completion of a significant chapter in her life. Grateful for the support received, Santos expressed, "I will always be so grateful to Laredo College for everything they did for me. LC will always remain deeply in my heart, and I will always be grateful to everyone who helped and will continue to help me in my journey."
