Homeless Man with Extensive Arrest History Detained in Fredericksburg for Public Intoxication and Resisting Arrest

Jose Luis Nieto Sr

In an incident unfolding at Stonewall One Stop on East US Highway 290 late Sunday night, 57-year-old Jose Luis Nieto Sr, identified as homeless, was apprehended by local authorities. The arrest was made during a routine business check when Nieto, visibly intoxicated, was found in front of the establishment.

Nieto's encounter with law enforcement took a contentious turn when questioned about a green bag beside him, which he initially disowned. Upon inspection, the bag yielded mail bearing Nieto's name, leading to further inquiries that Nieto vehemently resisted. Subsequent attempts to handcuff him were met with resistance, necessitating deputies to bring him to the ground for apprehension.

Nieto's arrest sheds light on his extensive history with the Fredericksburg Police and Gillespie County Sheriff's Office (GCSO). Public records reveal at least 12 prior arrests for public intoxication. Additionally, Nieto has faced charges related to family violence, evading arrest, assault causing bodily injury in a family violence context, and assault against the elderly in the past.
