In the midst of the festive season, San Antonio Animal Care Services (SAACS) has observed a growing challenge among residents in providing food for their pets. In response, the shelter has teamed up with City Council members for a friendly competition named "Kindness Unleashed: 10 Council Districts, 1 Pawsitive Goal."
The initiative aims to assist struggling pet owners by collecting donated bags of kibble and canned food for at-risk pets in San Antonio. Running until January 12, 2024, SAACS hopes to gather a minimum of 5 thousand pounds of pet food. The collected supplies will be distributed by the department's Field Enforcement and Community Animal Support & Assistance (C.A.S.A) divisions, which collaborate with pet owners to ensure compliance and compassionate care.
All Council districts are actively participating in the drive, and the district that contributes the highest amount of pet food during the month-long campaign will be honored with the inaugural SAACS Golden Paw Award, along with earning community-wide bragging rights. Residents can determine their council district by visiting the City's website.
