San Antonio Man Sentenced to 40 Years for Possessing Child Sexual Abuse Material

Raul Bonillas Viera

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - A San Antonio man has been sentenced to decades behind bars after investigators uncovered hundreds of images of child sexual abuse material during an Internet Crimes Against Children investigation.

On Friday, February 27, 2026, Judge Ron Rangel of the 379th District Court sentenced Raul Bonillas Viera to 40 years in prison for Possession of Child Pornography, a first-degree felony.

The case began in July 2023, when the Texas Office of the Attorney General’s Southern Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Taskforce received a report from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children CyberTipline. The report indicated an individual had uploaded an image depicting child sexual abuse material using Bing’s reverse image search technology. Investigators believed the image involved a female child younger than 10 years old.

Following an investigation, agents obtained and executed a search warrant at Viera’s residence. Authorities seized electronic devices and other evidence, ultimately discovering more than 500 images of child sexual abuse material, along with at least one explicit video involving a child.

Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Andrea Crespo and Jeff Wright, with the Public Integrity and Civil Rights Division, prosecuted the case with support from Victim Advocate Myra Martinez and Investigator Gregory H. DeHoyos.

“The exploitation of children is among the most serious crimes we prosecute,” said Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales. “Today’s sentence reflects the gravity of this offense and our unwavering commitment to protecting children and holding offenders fully accountable.”
