A San Antonio Park Police officer fatally shot a man in his late 20s during a struggle after the individual allegedly attempted to grab an officer's gun, according to SAPD Chief William McManus.
The incident unfolded in the 3400 block of Buena Vista near Elmendorf Lake Park, close to Our Lady of the Lake University. The two officers involved in the incident escaped unharmed.
Authorities responded to a disturbance between a couple in the park, prompting the dispatch of the first officer. Upon arrival, a man fled the scene and entered a nearby backyard. As the officer pursued and attempted to make an arrest, a struggle ensued.
A second officer arrived and tried to use a stun gun on the man, but the attempt proved unsuccessful, McManus reported. The situation escalated when the man allegedly attempted to seize the first officer's gun, prompting the second officer to intervene.
In response to the threat, the second officer discharged their firearm, resulting in the man's death at the scene. McManus disclosed that the deceased individual had four outstanding warrants, including one related to a previous incident where he allegedly tried to take an officer's gun.
The identities of the officers and the deceased man remain undisclosed. McManus cautioned that the information is preliminary and may be subject to change as the investigation progresses.
