26-year-old Louis Lamar Simpson Jr. of San Marcos, Texas, was arrested and charged with murder for the deaths of his mother, 53-year-old Tina McGruder, and grandmother, 75-year-old Deanne McGruder, on December 8, 2023, at their Basalt Drive residence in Killeen, Texas.
Irving Journal reports that authorities responded to a domestic disturbance call on that fateful day in the 2300 block of Basalt Drive. Upon arriving, officers encountered a visibly agitated male leaving the premises and distressing sounds emanating from inside. The individual, identified as Simpson Jr., was promptly detained, leading to the discovery of two female victims inside the residence, both having sustained gunshot wounds.
According to the details outlined in the arrest affidavit, Tina McGruder had contacted the police, reporting threats and physical assault by her son. She also informed law enforcement about the presence of firearms in the house.
When questioned by an officer, Tina McGruder identified her son as the assailant, stating, "Son." Subsequent interviews with Simpson Jr. revealed a tumultuous history, with him attributing the tragic events to his mother, who, according to him, had previously placed him in legal trouble, declaring that having him arrested was "the worst mistake she could have made."
Simpson Jr. had previously been arrested for family violence.
Simpson Jr. has been formally charged with Capital Murder and his bond has been set at $3,000,000.
