San Antonio Launches Online Registry for Dangerous Dogs

The City of San Antonio's Animal Care Services (SAACS) has introduced a new online tool aimed at keeping the community informed and safe. The searchable Dangerous Dog Registry provides details on the locations of legally deemed "dangerous dogs" within the city.

Accessible at SAACS.info/DogLaws, the registry lists specific addresses and the number of dangerous dogs at each location. Currently, there are over 100 dogs designated as "dangerous" in San Antonio. The map will be regularly updated to reflect new cases and includes information on all active dangerous dogs along with the corresponding number of dogs per address.

Shannon Sims, Director of Animal Care Services, emphasized the importance of the registry in enhancing community safety. "The City of San Antonio’s Dangerous Dog Registry allows us to keep our community informed and safe," said Sims. "Over the past year, ACS has worked diligently to increase the number of Animal Care Officers to improve the response time to critical calls. This Dangerous Dog Registry is part of ACS Strategic Plan that supports a safe community for residents in their neighborhoods."

The introduction of this interactive online registry follows a recent Attorney General ruling that permits Animal Care Services to release information about the location of dangerous dogs. The City's ordinance aligns with the State Law's definition of a "dangerous dog," which includes an animal that makes an unprovoked attack outside the owner’s property causing bodily injury or a dog that behaves in a way that a person reasonably believes would cause bodily injury if it were to leave its yard.

To report a dangerous dog, call 311 (210-207-6000) or visit SA.gov/ACS. If a dangerous dog is posing an immediate threat to life, please call 911.
