Man Arraigned in Deadly Auto-Pedestrian Crash Involving Migrants in Brownsville

The man accused of a deadly auto-pedestrian crash in Brownsville involving a group of migrants appeared in court for arraignment on October 13. George Alvarez, the accused, is facing charges for allegedly striking 18 migrants waiting at a bus stop on Minnesota Road back in May.

During the arraignment, Alvarez pleaded not guilty to charges of manslaughter. His jury trial is scheduled for February 26, and the judge set his bond at $2.7 million.

According to the Brownsville police report, the incident occurred when Alvarez was behind the wheel of an SUV. He allegedly ran a red light, lost control of the vehicle, and collided with the group of migrants at the bus stop, resulting in the tragic loss of eight lives.

The victims, all males, included several individuals from Venezuela.

Alvarez reportedly attempted to flee the scene, but he was quickly apprehended by several witnesses in the vicinity, who held him until law enforcement arrived.
