The San Antonio Police Department has released video footage of an officer-involved shooting that occurred on August 30, 2023, at the 600 block of SW Loop 410. The incident involved undercover detectives from the Property Crimes Task Force who located a stolen vehicle linked to multiple vehicle burglaries in the northwest part of San Antonio.

Officers surveilled the stolen vehicle as it traveled from IH 10 to Loop 410, exiting at Highway 151 and entering the parking lot at the 600 block of SW Loop 410. Upon arrival, the driver of the stolen vehicle fled on foot, while the second suspect was quickly apprehended.

During the pursuit, an undercover detective chased the fleeing suspect and ordered him to stop. The suspect ignored the command and, reaching into his clothing, produced a handgun. A single gunshot was heard, and the detective fell to the ground. In response, another officer, witnessing the detective's fall and hearing the gunshot, discharged multiple rounds at the armed suspect.

The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Victor Fernandes, sustained several gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The injured detective was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. Subsequent investigation revealed that the detective accidentally shot himself during the incident.

The San Antonio Police Department is conducting a thorough investigation into the incident and has released the relevant video footage to the public.
