A man who suffered severe injuries in a brutal dog attack last month has tragically passed away, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner. 47-year-old Paul Anthony Striegl succumbed to his injuries after being attacked by his neighbor's dogs, Ghost and Venus, in his own yard on Heidelberg Street, located on the Northeast Side of San Antonio.
The incident occurred when Striegl was in his yard, and the two dogs managed to enter his property by going under the fence. The attack left him with severe injuries on both his arms and torso, including the loss of his left hand and detached pieces of flesh from his chest and stomach. Animal Care Services officer Merian Martinez confirmed that the dogs responsible for the attack were pit bull mixes.
Striegl was immediately rushed for medical attention, but unfortunately, he could not overcome the extent of his injuries. The dog that attacked him was euthanized following the incident.
The owner of the dogs, Greg Palmer, was not present during the attack. Palmer's female dog, Venus, has been released back to him. However, his male dog, Ghost, has been ordered to be euthanized. As a result of the investigation, Palmer is now facing three citations from Animal Care Services. Two citations were issued for the dogs being loose, and one was issued in connection with the bite incident.
