One Dead, Another Seriously Injured in Suspected DWI Crash on U.S. 90 in Castroville

CASTROVILLE, Texas — One person was killed and another suffered serious injuries after a two-vehicle crash Sunday morning in Castroville that investigators believe may have involved an intoxicated driver.

According to the Castroville Police Department, officers responded at approximately 6:59 a.m. on July 5 to a major crash in the westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 90 East at Tondre Parkway (near Walmart).

When officers arrived, they determined a black Chevrolet Camaro, driven by a lone female occupant, had rear-ended a GMC Yukon occupied by a family of four.

One passenger in the Yukon was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second passenger sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

The female driver of the Camaro was also injured and transported to a local hospital.

Based on the preliminary investigation, police believe intoxicants may have been a contributing factor in the crash. Authorities said toxicology testing is pending, and any criminal charges will be determined after those results are received and the investigation is completed.

The identities of those involved have not been released.

The investigation remains active, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.

The Castroville Police Department extended its condolences to the families affected by the crash and to the community.
