Firefighters Rescue Unconscious Resident From Burning Universal City Home

UNIVERSAL CITY, Texas — A coordinated response by police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel is being credited with saving the life of a resident found unconscious inside a burning home Wednesday.

According to the Universal City Police Department, officers responded on June 24 to a reported welfare concern that quickly escalated after they discovered a residential structure fire.

When officers arrived, they found heavy smoke and intense heat coming from the home and determined it was unsafe to enter. They immediately requested the fire department.

Firefighters arrived and confirmed an active fire inside the residence. Recognizing the immediate danger, crews entered the home and located an unconscious occupant who was barely breathing.

The victim was removed from the residence and turned over to waiting EMS personnel, who immediately began advanced life support treatment.

The occupant was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation before being transported to the San Antonio Military Medical Center Level I Trauma and Burn Center for further evaluation and treatment.

Officials credited the successful rescue to the rapid actions and teamwork of emergency dispatchers, police officers, firefighters, and EMS personnel, whose quick response and coordinated efforts allowed the victim to be located and removed before conditions worsened.

The Universal City Police Department also thanked Universal City Dispatch, Schertz EMS, the Live Oak Fire Department, the Selma Fire Department, and Universal City Animal Control for assisting with the incident.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
