FREDERICKSBURG, Texas - Two people are dead and two young children suffered minor injuries following a domestic violence-related shooting, vehicle crash, and police pursuit Wednesday evening in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
According to the Fredericksburg Police Department, officers responded at approximately 5:32 p.m. on June 3 after receiving reports of shots fired connected to a domestic incident.
Preliminary investigators determined that a male driver was pursuing a female driver in separate vehicles along Olde William Street and Emancipation Highway.
During the pursuit, police said the male suspect fired multiple rounds from a firearm at the woman's vehicle.
Authorities said the female driver attempted to escape but crashed near the intersection of College Avenue and Emancipation Highway.
Officers quickly arrived at the crash scene and rendered emergency aid before the woman was transported to a nearby hospital. Despite lifesaving efforts, she later died from her injuries.
Two children, ages 7 and 3, were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. Investigators said both children suffered minor injuries as a result of the collision and were not struck by gunfire.
As officers responded to the crash scene, the suspect vehicle was observed attempting to flee the area.
Police initiated a pursuit after the driver failed to stop. As the pursuit approached Wilderness Lane, the suspect suffered what investigators described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The suspect, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police emphasized that no shots were fired by law enforcement during the incident.
Authorities confirmed that the deceased man and woman were the parents of the two children involved. The juveniles are currently being reunited with family members.
Investigators said there are no outstanding suspects and no ongoing threat to the public.
Multiple crime scenes remained active Wednesday evening as detectives and forensic personnel continued processing evidence.
The Fredericksburg Police Department said no additional details would be released at this time.
"The Fredericksburg Police Department extends its deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones impacted by this tragedy," the department said in a statement.
