UNIVERSAL CITY, Texas - A former high school volleyball coach has been arrested and charged with having an improper relationship with a female student following an investigation by the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.
According to investigators, deputies were notified on May 28 about allegations involving an educator and a student in eastern Bexar County. School administrators launched an internal investigation after the student's parents reported concerns about the teacher's conduct.
Authorities identified the suspect as 33-year-old Breann Halcumb, who worked as the head volleyball coach at Randolph High School in Universal City. According to the Randolph Field ISD, Halcumb resigned from her position and is no longer employed with the school district.
"Randolph High School administration recently became aware of allegations involving possible non-school-related contact between former RHS coach Breann Halcumb and an RHS student-athlete during the 2025-2026 school year. Ms. Halcumb had previously tendered her resignation and is no longer employed by Randolph Field ISD, " posted the school district to their social media page.
Investigators learned that Halcumb and the student had been spending time together outside of school, including at school-related events. During the investigation, authorities reviewed communications between the two and discovered more than 160 messages exchanged between February and April.
According to records, the messages revealed discussions suggesting an intimate relationship and included conversations in which Halcumb allegedly prepared the student for potential questioning and asked the student not to discuss the relationship with others.
The student's father reported that Halcumb gave his daughter a ride home following a school sporting event. Investigators allege the two instead went to a park, where they kissed and engaged in inappropriate physical contact.
Authorities also learned of a separate incident in which Halcumb visited the student's home to have her nails done. During the investigation, the teenager reported that additional kissing and fondling occurred during that encounter.
According to the arrest warrant, the student told investigators she was 18 years old and still enrolled as a student when the physical contact occurred.
Records indicate the student's parents later confronted Halcumb by phone in May. During that conversation, investigators said Halcumb acknowledged the relationship was inappropriate but claimed the student initiated the physical contact.
Based on the evidence gathered, investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Halcumb.
She was taken into custody in Panola County on June 1 and transported to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office on June 2.
Halcumb has been charged with Improper Relationship Between Educator and Student, a second-degree felony under Texas law.
The investigation remains ongoing.
