DEL RIO, Texas - A Del Rio man was arrested on multiple felony charges after police say he assaulted an ex-household member, violated a protective order, and intentionally struck her vehicle with his own.
According to the Del Rio Police Department, officers responded at approximately 11:45 p.m. on May 29 to the 1600 block of Veterans Boulevard regarding a disturbance.
The caller, identified as 34-year-old Luis Abel Hernandez, told dispatchers he was following an ex-household member whom he believed was driving while intoxicated.
When officers arrived, they found both vehicles involved in a crash.
Investigators learned police had recently responded to another incident involving Hernandez at a residence in the 100 block of Encinal Street. Witnesses reported that Hernandez forced entry into the home, removed several cell phones, and caused bodily injury to a female occupant before leaving the scene.
Authorities said Hernandez was subject to an active Emergency Protective Order that prohibited him from committing acts of violence against members of the household.
During the investigation, officers determined Hernandez allegedly struck the woman's vehicle twice, causing a collision and placing her in fear of serious bodily injury or death.
Police arrested Hernandez for violating the court order and conducted a search of his person and vehicle.
Investigators initially found a vial containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana and a small bag containing a crystal-like substance. After testing at the police station, the leafy substance tested negative for marijuana, while the crystal-like substance tested positive for cocaine, according to police.
