FLORESVILLE, TX — A 55-year prison sentence was handed down on April 8, 2026, following a Wilson County jury’s guilty verdict in a case of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child. Fabian Garza was convicted after a trial that featured emotional testimony regarding the severe harm inflicted upon the young victim.
The investigation was led by the Floresville Police Department, whose findings provided the foundation for the prosecution’s case.
Prosecutors emphasized that the case successfully moved forward due to the "extraordinary courage" of the child victim. Despite the inherent difficulty of the legal process, the victim provided the testimony and strength necessary for the jury to reach a unanimous guilty verdict.
Following the return of the verdict, Garza elected for the Court to determine his punishment rather than the jury. The Honorable Russell Wilson presided over the sentencing phase, ultimately ordering Garza to serve 55 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ).
The District Attorney’s Office credited a dedicated team for securing the conviction and supporting the family:
Prosecutors: Marc Ledet and Lorena Whitney
Victim Coordinator: Katie Quinney, who provided critical support and communication for the victim and their family throughout the proceedings.
"While this sentence holds the offender accountable, it also reflects the justice sought on behalf of the victim," the District Attorney’s Office stated in a post-trial release. "We commend the victim and their family for their bravery and resilience."
Authorities remind the public that reporting suspected child abuse is a vital step in protecting the community. If you suspect a child is being harmed, please contact your local law enforcement agency or the Texas Abuse Hotline.
