Del Valle Man Sentenced to 15 Years on Drug, Firearm Charges Following I-35 Traffic Stop

Jeremy Noel Montoya

COMAL COUNTY, Texas — A 44-year-old man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to multiple drug and firearm-related charges stemming from a traffic stop in 2023.

Jeremy Noel Montoya was sentenced to 15 years in prison for Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. He also received a 10-year sentence for Theft of a Firearm. All sentences will run concurrently, according to court records.

Montoya’s charges were enhanced due to a prior conviction for Aggravated Assault Family Violence with a Deadly Weapon.

The case originated from a traffic stop on July 30, 2023, along Interstate 35 North near Engel Road. Authorities said Montoya was stopped for speeding, and during the encounter, the officer detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a backpack containing packaged marijuana, THC products, and psilocybin mushrooms, along with a loaded .380 handgun. Investigators later determined the firearm had been reported stolen in Hays County during a 2021 home burglary.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lauren Cole, and the investigation was conducted by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
