BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office has dismantled a theft ring responsible for targeting construction sites across the region, recovering an estimated $80,000 worth of stolen building materials.

Deputies responded on Friday, February 27, 2026, to a theft report in the 10000 block of Monte Carmel Place, where a hidden motion-detection camera captured clear footage of suspects stealing roofing materials from a construction site around 12:15 a.m. The suspects were seen loading materials into a white van.

Investigators tracked the vehicle to a residence in the 4200 block of San Fernando Street, where deputies observed both the suspect vehicle and stolen property visible from the roadway. A search warrant was quickly obtained and executed later that afternoon.

During the search, deputies uncovered a large stockpile of stolen construction supplies hidden beneath black plastic in the backyard. While the initial theft was valued at about $2,600, investigators determined the total recovered property was worth approximately $80,000.

Recovered items included:

  • 19 pallets of plywood roofing materials

  • 9 exterior and interior doors

  • 6 stacks of OSB wood boards and a window

  • Multiple air compressors, nail guns, and professional construction tools

Investigators said the suspects admitted to committing thefts two to three times per week, scouting active construction sites and selling stolen materials for cash. The recovered property has been linked to thefts at construction locations in Seguin, along Potranco Road, Highway 211, and FM 1518.

Authorities arrested:

  • Joaquin Sanchez Rodriguez, 28 — Theft of Property (Third-Degree Felony)

  • Nicandro Sanchez Rodriguez, 35 — Theft of Property (Third-Degree Felony)

Due to the volume of recovered materials, officials said two 18-wheelers and two flatbed trucks were required to remove the stolen property from the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing as deputies work to identify additional theft cases connected to the operation.
