San Antonio Woman Sentenced to 40 Years for Fatal Shooting of Sonic Manager

Adiah Roberson

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - A Bexar County judge has sentenced Adiah Roberson to 40 years in prison for the murder of Daniel Shrewsbury, a Sonic restaurant manager who was killed while trying to report a theft.

On Friday, January 30, 2026, Judge Benjamin Robertson of the 226th District Court sentenced Roberson to 40 years for murder and an additional 20 years for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The sentences will run concurrently.

The case stems from a July 2024 incident at a Sonic restaurant in San Antonio. According to evidence presented in court, Roberson attempted to pay for her order using counterfeit money. When the store manager confronted her, she became disruptive, knocking over food and drinks and stealing cash from an employee before leaving the restaurant.

After the theft was discovered, Daniel Shrewsbury followed Roberson and her companions outside in an effort to obtain their license plate information so a police report could be filed. Prosecutors said that during this encounter, Roberson exited her vehicle and fatally shot Shrewsbury.

The prosecution was led by Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Raul Jordan and Cassandra Rosales of the Criminal Trial Division, with support from Victim Advocate Brandy Jimenez and Investigator George Felan.

“This was a heartbreaking and senseless act of violence that stole the life of someone simply doing their job,” said Joe Gonzales, Bexar County District Attorney. “While nothing can bring
Daniel back, we truly hope this sentencing provides his loved ones with some measure of solace."
