GOLIAD COUNTY, Texas - Goliad County Sheriff's Office deputies made a significant fraud arrest Thursday, January 29, after a routine traffic stop uncovered stolen mail, passports, and extensive personal financial information.
According to the Goliad County Sheriff’s Office, an Operation Lone Star Interdiction sergeant stopped Marisa Magana of San Antonio for a traffic violation while she was driving a U-Haul. Magana told deputies she was traveling to a funeral. During the investigation, deputies determined she was in possession of stolen mail that had been illegally taken from both San Antonio and Goliad.
Deputies also discovered multiple passports that did not belong to Magana, along with a large number of credit cards issued to various individuals. Investigators say Magana was carrying a ledger containing detailed personal and financial information tied to numerous victims.
Magana was arrested and charged with:
Fraud – Possession or Use of Credit or Debit Card (more than 50), a first-degree felony
Fraud – Use or Possession of Identifying Information of 10 to 50 People, a second-degree felony
Theft of Mail, a third-degree felony
The sheriff’s office confirmed it is working with the Department of Homeland Security and the United States Postal Service to pursue possible federal charges in the case.
Magana remains in custody at the Goliad County Jail as the investigation continues.
