A 13-year-old boy remains in serious condition after a horrific mauling incident involving seven pit bulls at his home in the 22000 block of Escalante Run. Authorities have confirmed that two of the dogs responsible for the attack have been euthanized.
The alarming incident took place on Thursday, leaving the young victim with severe injuries. Emergency responders rushed to the scene and airlifted the teenager to University Hospital for immediate medical attention.
Following the incident, Bexar County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) intervened and promptly removed all seven pit bulls from the property. Tom Peine, a spokesperson for Bexar County, confirmed that two of the dogs involved in the attack were euthanized in accordance with "standard procedure." The decision to euthanize animals responsible for violent attacks is crucial for public safety and is commonly carried out to prevent further harm.
In addition to the euthanized dogs, the five other pit bulls were placed in quarantine at a local veterinary hospital for a mandatory 10-day observation period. During this time, health experts will closely monitor their behavior and assess whether they pose a threat to society. Bexar County Animal Control will ultimately determine whether these dogs will be deemed dangerous and what actions should be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
