Quick Response Stops Kitchen Fire at Castroville Restaurant Early Friday

CASTROVILLE, Texas - Early Friday morning, December 5, just after 6:30 a.m., Castroville Police were dispatched to a motion alarm at Billy Bobs restaurant on Highway 90. When officers arrived to check the building, they found an active fire in the kitchen area and immediately requested fire crews.

Stations 10, 11, 14, and 60 were sent to the scene. Ladder and Medic 8110 arrived within four minutes of the initial dispatch and quickly made entry. Firefighters found that a failed gas line was feeding the fire.

Crews shut off the gas supply and put out the remaining fire surrounding the damaged line, stopping the flames before they could spread through the restaurant. With the situation contained, all other responding units were released back into service.

Officials credited Castroville Police for their quick assessment of the alarm and spotting the fire early, saying their fast action helped prevent more serious damage to the business.
