Karnes County, TX - On November 24, 2025, just after 4 p.m., Karnes County deputies responded to a reported road-rage shooting near County Road 356 and FM 792. While deputies were heading to the scene, the caller stayed on the line with 911 and reported that the gunman had sped away on FM 792 toward Helena at nearly 100 miles per hour, passing vehicles in the oncoming lane. The suspect then turned onto SH 80 and continued toward Nixon.
Dispatchers relayed the updates to law enforcement in Wilson and Gonzales counties as well as the Nixon Police Department, asking officers to try to stop the fleeing vehicle.
A short time later, Nixon officers located the suspect and initiated a pursuit. The vehicle was eventually stopped, and the driver, believed to be the gunman, was detained. Karnes County investigators responded to Nixon, where they interviewed the suspect. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the man admitted to firing a pistol from his vehicle during the road-rage incident, fleeing the scene, throwing the gun out of the vehicle in an attempt to hide evidence, and attempting to outrun Nixon officers.
The suspect was identified as Abraham L. Ferrer of Karnes City. Ferrer was taken into custody by Nixon Police and magistrated in Gonzales County on charges of Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle. Investigators also determined he had committed Deadly Conduct (Discharge of a Firearm) and Tampering with or Fabricating Physical Evidence, both of which now carry active arrest warrants in Karnes County.
Ferrer has since been released from the Gonzales County Jail on bond and is currently wanted on the additional Karnes County charges. He is considered armed and dangerous.
Anyone with information on Ferrer’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Karnes County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center at 830-780-3931. Officials advise the public not to approach him.
Sheriff Bailey thanked the Nixon Police Department and the McMullen County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance, including efforts to locate the discarded firearm.
