New Braunfels Man Arrested After Four-Hour Standoff

Mark Joseph Freaney

On the morning of Friday, November 7, 2025, at approximately 8:30 a.m., the New Braunfels Police Department responded to reports of an armed individual making threats at a residence in the 800 block of Porter Street.

Officers made brief contact with the suspect before he retreated inside the home and refused to cooperate. The area was immediately secured, and the NBPD Command Center, Crisis Negotiations Team, and SWAT Team were deployed. Investigators determined that an offense of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon had occurred, and search and arrest warrants were obtained. Authorities confirmed that no other individuals were in the residence and that the incident was contained to a single home.

Over approximately four hours, negotiators worked to communicate with the suspect, later identified as 33-year-old Mark Joseph Freaney of New Braunfels. At around 12:30 p.m., the SWAT Team safely entered the home and took Freaney into custody without further incident.

Freaney is being charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a second-degree felony, and was transported to the Comal County Jail. No injuries were reported to officers or civilians, and the incident is believed to be isolated with no further threat to the community. Investigators remain on scene as the investigation continues.
