Kyle Man Indicted for Series of Armed Robberies at Austin Stores, Federal Officials Say

AUSTIN, TX – A 38-year-old Kyle man has been indicted on multiple federal charges in connection with a string of armed robberies at Austin convenience stores and a restaurant over the summer, authorities announced.

According to court documents, Yael Williams Jr., a convicted felon, is accused of using a .22 caliber revolver to threaten employees and steal cash and property during robberies at a Subway restaurant and two 7-Eleven stores in June and July.

Williams is charged with three counts of Hobbs Act robbery, one count of discharging a firearm during a violent crime, two counts of brandishing a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

If convicted, Williams faces a potentially lengthy federal prison sentence. The final sentence will be determined by a judge under federal sentencing guidelines.

The case was announced by U.S. Attorney Justin R. Simmons for the Western District of Texas. It is being investigated by the Austin Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), with Assistant U.S. Attorney Alan Buie prosecuting.
