Habitual Offender Receives 75-Year Sentence After Sexual Assault Allegations in San Antonio

Defendant: Pete Tamez

SAN ANTONIO, Texas—The Bexar County Criminal District Attorney's Office announced that 38-year-old Peter Tamez was sentenced to 75 years in prison as a habitual offender after a court heard evidence of his predatory behavior, including a pending charge for the sexual assault of a child.

Judge Benjamin Robertson of the 226th District Court imposed the sentence for the primary charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 (1−4 grams) and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.

During the punishment phase of the trial, the prosecution presented evidence regarding a pending charge of Super Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, which involved Tamez allegedly touching a five-year-old inappropriately. The court also heard evidence that Tamez had made false allegations related to a high-profile investigation.

Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales stated: "When people prey on our most vulnerable—especially our children—we will always demand accountability. I am truly inspired by this victim's strength and courage in coming forward, and I hope their bravery empowers others to seek justice as well."

The case was prosecuted by Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Oscar Salinas and Pauline Rivera.
