NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — A routine traffic stop on I-35 ended in a major drug seizure after officers discovered 44 pounds of cocaine hidden inside a pickup truck.
On Friday, September 19, around 2:15 p.m., members of the New Braunfels Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit pulled over a black GMC pickup in the 700 block of I-35 northbound. With the assistance of a Seguin Police Department K-9 unit, officers located a hidden floor compartment containing the drugs, valued at roughly $1 million.
The driver, 21-year-old Maria Elena Rojas, and passenger, 47-year-old Gustavo Licea-Feregrino, both of Del Rio, were detained and turned over to Homeland Security to face federal drug possession charges.
