BEXAR COUNTY, Texas—A Bexar County jury has found R.C. Curtis III guilty of capital murder and sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the 2015 murder of his 75-year-old grandmother-in-law, Paula Boyd.
The verdict was reached on Friday, August 22, in the 187th District Court.
According to prosecutors, Boyd's body was discovered in her home in October 2015 by coworkers. An autopsy confirmed she had been beaten, sexually assaulted, and strangled. DNA evidence belonging to Curtis was found in her mouth and under her fingernails. Investigators also linked Curtis to the crime through the use of Boyd's bank cards on the day of and after the murder.
This conviction follows a mistrial in September 2023 due to discovery issues.
Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales commented on the verdict, stating, "Today's sentencing confirms that our legal system will stand strong against the most heinous and violent crimes. We would like to thank the jury for their service and for delivering justice to the family and friends of Paula Boyd."
The prosecution was led by Deputy Chief Daryl Harris and Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Steve Speir and Alexandria Boggess.
