UVALDE, TX — On Wednesday, July 16th, emergency crews launched a rescue operation after a vehicle was reported swept off Ranch Road 187 South at the Frio River crossing.
Uvalde Police Communications received the initial call from a person who said a family member had phoned them several hours earlier, stating they were being swept off the road while inside a vehicle. First responders arrived at the scene and began a search operation.
The vehicle was later discovered submerged and overturned in the river. No occupants were found in or near the vehicle. Authorities later confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen.
The search remains active. Officials are urging the public to avoid low water crossings, especially those marked with barricades.
Multiple agencies are assisting with the ongoing operation, including the Uvalde and Sabinal Fire Departments, Uvalde County Sheriff’s Office, Uvalde Police Department, Uvalde County Constables, Southwest Texas College Police, Uvalde County EOC, Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Rangers, Texas Game Wardens, Texas AEM Task Force One, U.S. Border Patrol, and U.S. Customs Air and Marine Operations.
