A seemingly ordinary afternoon took a chaotic turn when a male driver waiting at a traffic light on Rhomberg Avenue became the target of an unprovoked attack by a female pedestrian on Tuesday. The incident resulted in the arrest of the woman, who now faces charges of resisting arrest and assaulting a peace officer.
According to witnesses at the scene, the male subject was sitting patiently in his car at the intersection of Rhomberg Avenue and East Polk Street when a female pedestrian approached his vehicle. Without any apparent reason, the woman began kicking the car, causing visible damage to the vehicle's exterior.
Startled by the unexpected assault, the male driver quickly alerted the authorities, and the Burnet Police Department (BPD) was dispatched to the location. Responding units immediately headed towards the scene, ensuring the safety of the individuals involved and restoring order in the area.
Shortly after the initial call, BPD officers arrived at the scene and located the female suspect as she walked away towards Miller's, a local convenience store. Descriptions provided by witnesses revealed that the woman was wearing green headphones and carrying a camouflage backpack.
Upon making contact with the female suspect, the situation quickly escalated. The woman allegedly resisted arrest, leading to the requesting of additional units for backup. The police radio channel was temporarily closed to ensure secure communication during the incident.
During the struggle to apprehend the suspect, the female individual reportedly spat on one of the arresting officers, resulting in further charges being filed against her. To ensure her safety and that of the officers involved, the authorities employed log hobble restraints to securely restrain the combative suspect.
Once the situation was under control, the radio channel was reopened, and the officers proceeded to transport the suspect to the Burnet County Jail (BCJ) for processing. Medical clearance was sought before her arrival at the jail to assess any injuries sustained during the altercation.
Jail officials were notified in advance of the combative nature of the incoming detainee and were advised to prepare a restraint chair if necessary to prevent further disruption or harm. A case has been assigned to investigate the charges of resisting arrest and assault on a peace officer, with law enforcement working in coordination with the judicial system.
