Suspect Apprehended for Animal Cruelty in San Antonio: Dog Finds Fur-ever Home

John Schafer

In a heart-wrenching incident that occurred on April 27th, local authorities have apprehended a 28-year-old man, identified as John Schafer, for committing an act of animal cruelty. Responding to a disturbance call in the 200 block of Coopwood Avenue, officers from the City of San Antonio Animal Care Services (ACS) and the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) discovered that the suspect had not only threatened but also brutally injured a pet dog.

During the altercation, Schafer allegedly brandished a box cutter knife, menacingly threatening to harm the defenseless canine. Shockingly, he followed through on his threat by stabbing the innocent dog in the neck before hastily fleeing the scene, leaving the dog in critical condition.

Promptly responding to the distress call, officers arrived at the location and found the injured animal. They wasted no time in contacting ACS, who quickly took charge of rescuing and providing immediate medical attention to the dog. ACS officers expertly fostered the dog, nursing it back to health over the intervening weeks.
