High-Speed Chase Ends in Fredericksburg, Suspect Still at Large

A dramatic high-speed chase unfolded in downtown Fredericksburg on June 4, 2023, when a driver evaded a traffic stop and led law enforcement officers on a dangerous pursuit through the city streets. The incident occurred at approximately 3:45 pm on South Washington Street.

An officer from the Fredericksburg Police Department attempted to initiate a traffic stop for a violation when the driver of the suspect vehicle, whose identity has not been disclosed, refused to comply. In a reckless attempt to evade capture, the driver accelerated towards East Main Street, with the officer in pursuit, activating emergency lights and sirens.

The suspect vehicle, moving at an extremely high rate of speed, careened westward on Main Street, weaving through the heart of downtown Fredericksburg. Officers from various law enforcement agencies joined the pursuit, ensuring the safety of pedestrians and motorists in the area while trying to keep the vehicle in sight.

The chase took a turn when a Gillespie County Deputy, strategically positioned at Cherry Street on the west end of Main Street, successfully deployed spike strips, puncturing one of the suspect vehicle's tires. Despite the damage, the driver continued their flight northbound on US 87 North.

Authorities later discovered the abandoned suspect vehicle behind a residence on GW Crenwelge Road. Deputies and officers, following the trail of damage caused by the missing tire, located the vehicle, but its occupant(s) remained at large. A thorough search was conducted by multiple assisting law enforcement agencies in the area.

The Fredericksburg Police Department expressed gratitude to the Gillespie County Sheriff's Office, Llano County Sheriff's Office, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Fredericksburg Fire Department/Fire Marshal, the Texas Rangers, and the United States Secret Service for their valuable assistance in the ongoing investigation.

As of now, the suspect's identity has been determined, but further details have not been released to the public. The case remains under investigation, and law enforcement officials continue their efforts to locate and apprehend the individual(s) responsible for the high-speed chase.

Anyone with information regarding the incident or the whereabouts of the suspect is urged to contact the Fredericksburg Police Department or local authorities immediately.
