Maryanne Shipley, 46, from Canyon Lake, has been found guilty of Capital Murder by a Comal County jury, resulting in an automatic sentence of Life Imprisonment without Parole. Judge Dib Waldrip of the 433rd District Court presided over the trial. Shipley's conviction follows those of her co-defendants, Jennifer Diaz and Brendyn Chmiel, who received sentences of 28 years and Life in prison, respectively.
The case dates back to November 20, 2017, when Comal County Sheriff’s Deputies initiated a Murder Investigation after discovering the body of 56-year-old Glenn Douglas Larssen, with multiple gunshot wounds, outside his residence on Rambling Drive in Canyon Lake. Shipley and Diaz later came forward, revealing their presence at the scene and leading to the identification and arrest of Chmiel as the shooter. However, subsequent investigations implicated Shipley and Diaz in the crime, with digital forensics uncovering incriminating messages exchanged before and after the murder.
Throughout the trial, evidence was presented, including testimony from law enforcement officers and a digital forensics expert, as well as recorded jail calls between Shipley and her sister discussing Larssen's alleged involvement in illegal activities and plans to confront him. The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Comal County Sheriff’s office and the Texas Department of Public Safety – Texas Rangers, with special recognition given to Constable Charlie Motz and Texas Ranger Lieutenant Joseph Evans.
Assistant District Attorneys Sarah Van Sciver and Daniel Floyd prosecuted the case, with assistance from DA Investigator Jacob Starr.
