McAllen Police Sergeant Ismael Cruz has been arrested and charged with Class CM Assault Contact Family Violence, according to information provided by the Dallas Police Department.

The arrest occurred on or about February 24, 2024, while Sgt. Cruz was off-duty and with family in Dallas. The charge is reported as a Class C Misdemeanor.

Following protocol, Sgt. Cruz has been instructed to report the arrest, charge, and outcome to both the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) and the McAllen Police Department.

In response to the situation, the McAllen Police Department has launched an administrative investigation, running parallel to the ongoing criminal case in Dallas. Sgt. Cruz has been placed on restricted duty as the investigation unfolds.

Sgt. Cruz has served as an officer with the McAllen Police Department for 25 years.
