On Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at approximately 9:10 a.m., local deputies responded to a concerned citizen's call reporting a reckless driver on South US Highway 87. The driver was observed swerving across lanes and into oncoming traffic.
Following the tip, a deputy located the vehicle within the 1600 block of South US Highway 87 and initiated a traffic stop. Upon contact with the driver, identified as 42-year-old Lawrence Wyatt Castillo of San Antonio, TX, the deputy observed behavior leading to reasonable suspicion.
As a result, Castillo was asked to exit the vehicle and submitted to a pat-down search. A syringe containing a substance later confirmed to be methamphetamine was discovered in his front pocket. Subsequent searches of the vehicle revealed two additional loaded syringes, both testing positive for methamphetamine.
Lawrence Wyatt Castillo was promptly arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 1/1-B < 1 gram. He was transported to the Gillespie County Jail, where a $2,000 bond was set. Castillo posted bail and was released on the same day.
