High-Speed Pursuit Through Gillespie County Ends in Tierra Linda Subdivision

Brendan Riley Hebert

On Sunday morning, January 7, at around 11:31 a.m., a Gillespie County Sheriff's Office deputy initiated a traffic stop in the 20500 block of West US Highway 290 for a speeding violation, clocked at 85 mph in a 70 mph zone.

As the deputy attempted to pull over the vehicle, the driver, identified as 23-year-old Brendan Riley Hebert of Spicewood, TX, accelerated, reaching speeds well over 100 mph. The reckless pursuit continued as Hebert even crossed into eastbound lanes on West US Highway 290, dangerously passing other vehicles and narrowly avoiding a head-on collision.

The chase progressed onto South Ranch Road 783, where the deputy briefly lost sight of the fleeing vehicle. However, the deputy spotted Hebert again in the 9100 block of South Ranch Road 783, witnessing the suspect pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone.

Authorities from the Kerr County Sheriff’s Office were notified and were prepared to deploy spikes at the county line. Surprisingly, Hebert turned into the Tierra Linda subdivision before reaching the county line. Deputies from both the Kerr County Sheriff’s Office and the Gillespie County Sheriff’s Office collaborated in patrolling the area.

Shortly thereafter, deputies stationed at the subdivision's entrance successfully stopped Hebert's vehicle. Hebert was detained and subsequently arrested for charges of Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle and Reckless Driving.

In a subsequent court hearing, Hebert's identity was officially confirmed, and his bond was set at $25,000.
