In a chaotic incident on the far West Side, residents at Timber Creek Apartments were forced to seek cover as a wild gun battle unfolded at around 2 a.m. on Tuesday. Chief William McManus of the San Antonio Police Department reported that officers initially responded to a call about someone firing a long gun at the complex, situated in the 6900 block of Timbercreek Drive.
Upon arrival, officers found themselves under attack as the suspect opened fire on them, prompting a retreat and a call for SWAT assistance. Even with the SWAT team on the scene, the firefight persisted, with the suspect engaging in an exchange of gunfire with the officers.
In the course of the confrontation, a 43-year-old suspect was shot by a SWAT team member, sustaining a graze wound to the head. The wounded individual was subsequently transported to a hospital for treatment. McManus noted that the suspect had been firing shots through a fence at SWAT officers during the incident.
The intensity of the gun battle resulted in collateral damage, with bullet holes discovered in a wrought-iron fence and a private home across the street. Additionally, several bullets penetrated the apartments of the suspect's neighbors. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the residents.
The motive behind the suspect's violent actions remains unclear, prompting authorities to conduct a mental evaluation on the 43-year-old individual. The investigation is ongoing.
