Weekend Policing Efforts Uncover Smuggling, Narcotics, and Firearms Violations in Uvalde

In another busy weekend for our hard-working officers, the Uvalde Police Department took action to ensure the safety and security of the community.

On Friday, January 5, 2024, at approximately 9:30 P.M., a traffic stop on the 2800 block of East Main St. led to the discovery of several undocumented individuals and a stolen firearm concealed in the vehicle. The 66-year-old male driver, Laislao Argueta Castro, was arrested for smuggling of a person (Second Degree Felony) and theft of a firearm (State Jail Felony).

Later that night, at around 10:52 P.M., another traffic stop at the 200 block of South Farrar Street revealed 1.3 grams of cocaine hidden in the vehicle. The 34-year-old male driver, Omar Orozco, faced charges for possession of a controlled substance PG 1/1-B>=1g<4g (Third Degree Felony).

On Saturday, January 6, 2024, at approximately 2:50 A.M., a traffic stop at the 400 block of South High Street uncovered 0.6oz of marijuana and a firearm in the vehicle. The 22-year-old male driver, Jose Luis Camacho III, was arrested for possession of marijuana <2oz (Class B Misdemeanor) and unlawful carrying of a firearm (Class A Misdemeanor).

Concluding the weekend, on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at approximately 1:36 P.M., the Uvalde Police Department made consensual contact with 32-year-old Jorge Francisco Trevino. Further investigation revealed that Trevino had an outstanding warrant out of Uvalde County for violation of pre-trial (possession of a controlled substance).
